Presenters:

Lashawnda Maulson, Lac du Flambeau Tribal Prevention Director

Sharon Krause, UW-Madison Extension Positive Youth Development Educator for Lac du Flambeau and Oneida County

Lashawnda and Sharon have worked together since 2018 as members of several coalitions that coordinate efforts to address the high rates of suicide and substance abuse on the Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe reservation.   The tribe’s Healthier Community Action Team, Minobimaadiziiwin Coalition, and the Vilas County Youth Coalition share resources and cooperate on large events such as an annual 6th grade conference for all the students in Vilas County.  They will share the story of their work, its importance, and ongoing efforts to help the people of Lac du Flambeau, especially the youth, break free from the negative impacts of historical trauma.
